In the field of golf, there is nothing better than having clubs that not only fill the game’s requirements but fit in comfortably with the needs of the player. This is what will be found in the new Titleist AP1 712 Irons 3-9P.

The concept for the original Advanced Performance irons arose as a result of research that indicated serious golfers want performance with great feel, not performance at the expense of feel. The Titleist R&D team’s advanced research group has been conducting extensive sound and vibration analysis aimed at reducing the harsh lower frequency vibration that causes poor feel in irons. This research led to combining several technologies and materials in the back cavity of the new AP irons resulting in a new Tuned Feel System to take feel to a new level.

Titleist is known for bringing equipment to the tour prior to release as part of its "validation" process and is holding to that strategy with the new AP1 712 Irons line. The clubs--new MBs, CBs, AP1s and AP2s (the latter two shown below)--are out on tour for the first time this week at the AT&T National. Visually, the MBs and CBs are not a big departure from previous iterations, but the Titleist AP1 712 and AP2s have revamped cavity designs and a higher moment of inertia for more consistent results on mis-hits. According to Titleist, the AP1 and AP2 irons each have a better application of multi-material design (both in terms of location and densities) that have allowed engineers to more effectively use the weight in the clubhead.
